A singing robin design has been chosen as the winning entry for Peter Gibson’s Christmas Card Competition.
Earlier this year Peter wrote to schools across Darlington and invited Primary and Junior School children to design his Christmas Card for 2023.
The winner of this year’s Christmas Card Competition is Miriam Howe, aged 9, with her creative drawing of a robin singing merrily.
Miriam who attends Abbey Junior School, beat off competition from nearly 500 entries to emerge as the overall winner in the annual competition. Miriam was presented with a personalised trophy and certificate today.
There were also three runners-up, Harper Garthwaite, aged 7 from Reid Street Primary School, Joshua Moon, aged 8 from St Mary’s Cockerton CE Primary School and Blessing Eghaverba, aged 10 from Northwood Primary School who all received a certificate and their designs are featured on the back of the Christmas Card.
Peter Gibson, MP for Darlington, said: “Miriam has done a fantastic job, I especially liked the level of detail needed to create the Robin and blue sky.”
Jonathan Briggs, Headteacher at Federation of Abbey Schools said” I am delighted that Miriam was chosen as the overall winner of the competition with her singing Robin design.
“The pupils thoroughly enjoyed taking part. Miriam and her fellow pupils really enjoyed Mr Gibson's visit to our assembly when he presented the trophy".
Peter’s Christmas card will be sent to key stakeholders in Darlington. The Prime Minister and his Ministerial colleagues will also receive a card.
