Peter Gibson MP for Darlington has been re-elected as co-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Hospice and End of Life Care.
The APPG brings together MPs and Peers from across the political spectrum to campaign for high quality and accessible palliative and end of life care for all, to raise awareness and promote the needs of adults and children living with terminal or life-limiting conditions, and their families and carers, in Parliament.
The APPG aims to promote to raise awareness and promote the needs of adults and children living with terminal or life-limiting conditions, and their families and carers, in parliament; and to promote person-centred, evidence-based policies to improve end of life care in all settings, including hospices, hospitals, care homes, and in people's own homes.
Mr Gibson has regularly contributed to parliamentary proceedings to highlight the work of the hospice sector and the need to deliver a long term funding solution for them. Most recently he has brought together all Tees Valley MPs, on a cross party basis, to meet with the Chief Executives of St Teresa’s Hospice, Teesside Hospice, Alice House Hospice and Butterwick Hospice Care. Following this meeting Mr Gibson continues to work with his Tees Valley colleagues to stand up for the needs of local hospices.
Peter Gibson MP said “The work of this All-Party Parliamentary Group is incredibly important, and I look forward to using my knowledge and experience as trustee of a hospice to support the group as co-chair moving forward. I welcome the news announced this week, that we see special rules introduced to provide people nearing the end of life, faster and easier access to vital financial support
“Supporting our hospice sector is hugely important, they provide an invaluable benefit to our community and these organisations mean so much to me and to my constituents. This is not a party-political issue. I am delighted that my colleagues have re-elected me as co-chair and I look forward to continuing to use this platform to champion our hospice sector”
