The Secretary of State for Transport, Mark Harper MP visited Darlington last week and toured the site of the new Bank Top Station.
£139 million upgrade of our railway station has begun, which promises improved links across the North, Tees Valley and beyond.
Peter Gibson MP said “I was delighted to welcome Mark to the Bank Top Station development.
“The Government has invested a record £139 million to transform Darlington Train Station. The project will transform the areas around the station with a new terminal and platforms that will be located on the Bank Top side of the station.”
Secretary of State, Mark Harper MP said “When you see things on paper you kind of get an idea of what’s planned, but coming here you can see tonnes of progress, you can really see what it is going to look like when it’s finished.
“It’s a great partnership between Government, the local council, and the Tees Valley Combined Authority, delivering this fantastic project for the people of Darlington.”
The new Bank Top Station will be ready by 2024 and plans are sympathetic to the beautiful Victorian heritage and will make it a station ready and fit for the future. It will also pave the way for improved rail services for the town and region, helping to connect Darlington with the wider Tees Valley.
