Peter Gibson MP for Darlington attended Asda’s Brighter Living Parliamentary reception, to hear more about how the retailer is supporting customers, colleagues, and communities.
Hosted on 20th June, Asda updated Members of Parliament on its work to bring Brighter Living within everyone’s reach, whether by supporting community organisations; working with and fundraising for national charities; promoting sustainability; or working with suppliers to deliver quality, affordable, healthy, and nutritious products.
The Brighter Living Parliamentary reception was also an opportunity to celebrate the recent investment by Asda’s charity, the Asda Foundation, of more than £600,000 into local community space and places with 31 community groups across the UK receiving grants between £10,000 and £25,000. Overseen by Asda’s local Community Champions, this investment forms part of more than £50,000,000 delivered for communities since the Community Champions scheme was launched in 2012. In the last year, the retailer has also delivered a 10% pay rise for colleagues and remained the best-value traditional supermarket according to Which?.
Asda has recently agreed to acquire EG Group’s UK and Ireland operations. This brings together two strong businesses, whilst extending and strengthening Asda’s heritage in supporting colleagues, customers, and communities. The acquisition creates a more diversified business, with significant reach and experience. This will bring Asda’s services, support, and value to even more communities, in even more convenient locations.
Speaking after the reception Peter Gibson MP said: “I was pleased to attend Asda’s reception and hear more about how they are delivering for communities in Darlington and across the country.
“I know that the work of Community Champions, alongside The Asda Foundation, remains a lifeline for many grassroots community groups and charities, and I was interested to hear more about their work to promote sustainability, and healthy and nutritious products. I am pleased that this support will spread to even more communities as the business grows in the next few years.”
