A north east MP has been appointed to a new position in Parliament.
Darlington MP Peter Gibson, has been appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Cabinet Office.
The Cabinet Office supports the Prime Minister to ensure the effective running of Government. It also incorporates the headquarters for Government, in partnership with HM Treasury, and takes the lead in certain critical policy areas.
Cabinet Office is a ministerial department, supported by 26 agencies and public bodies.
A Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) is appointed by a Minister to be his or her assistant. He or she is selected from backbench MPs as the 'eyes and ears' of the Minister in the House of Commons.
Peter Gibson MP said “The Cabinet Office brings together a wide range of Government Departments and I am really looking forward to my new role.
“The nature of the work I’ll be undertaking will be across a vast range areas, including supporting the Cabinet Office with key parliamentary duties.
“I’ll be ensuring that Darlington’s voice is heard loud and clear at the centre of Government”.
