Speaking during Treasury Questions in the House of Commons today (20.06.23), Peter Gibson MP asked Gareth Davies MP, Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, for an update on progress on the permanent site for the Darlington Economic Campus.
Mr Gibson asked Mr Davies “when we will see spades in the ground on the Brunswick site in Darlington for the Darlington Economic Campus”.
In response, Mr Davies highlighted the importance of the Darlington Economic Campus in levelling up the region, promising to write to Mr Gibson with a thorough update on progress when he is able to.
The Darlington Economic Campus is set to house 1,000 civil servants by 2025, with the potential to reach 1,7000 civil service jobs in total. 80 percent of the 500 jobs already filled have gone to people from the region, putting real decision-making power in the hands of local people, empowering local leaders and communities.
Speaking about the Darlington Economic Campus, Mr Gibson said:
“This is a huge investment in our town and our region; ensuring that Darlington will play a key role in shaping future policy for our country.
“I look forward to hearing more about further progress on the development of the permanent location for the campus at the Brunswick site.”
