Key local media stakeholders were invited to a reception at 10 Downing Street recently to celebrate all that is good about local journalism.
Chris Lloyd, Chief Features Writer at the Northern Echo joined Peter Gibson MP and journalists from across the country to share and celebrate the impact of local journalism.
Peter Gibson MP said, “We often take for granted the great work local papers do to keep us informed and up to date. The Northern Echo is a fantastic community paper with a dedicated campaigning ethos, it was great to be with Chris Lloyd at Downing Street to share the story of the great daily of the North.”
Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Lucy Frazer said “Local journalism helps local areas stay connected, generates local pride, and keeps communities engaged in local issues. Local journalists capture the heart of our communities and make sure politicians are doing their jobs better by holding them to account.
“It was wonderful to joined by local journalist across the country in Downing Street last week - from community news sites, radio shows and free sheets - to thank them for their work to keep communities connected”.
